Sometimes You Just Have to Laugh at Yourself

So as I was fixin' up some leftover spaghetti yesterday for dinner (lunch for all you city folks) I decided to make some yummy garlic bread out of some small french loafs.

While cutting through a loaf of french bread I was thinking that I need to be careful cause I've almost made it through the loaf and I don't want to cut myself.

At that moment I sliced right into my pointer finger...

...oh blankity, blank, blank, blank.

Ok there was only one blank and then I sat down the knife and bread down and headed to the bathroom to get a band-aid so I can get back to cookin' some food.

So I head back to the kitchen to finish making my garlic bread only to discover I can't find my half-cut loaf and knife anywhere.

It's not on the counter where I was cutting it...

...so I look on the table that's in the kitchen but I don't see it there either.

So I look on the dinning room table, which is half way between the kitchen and bathroom, but it's not there either.

I head back into the kitchen and check the counter, then the table, then back to the dinning room, still no luck. I even go into the bathroom to see if I might have taken it in there in my rush to get a band-aid, but it wasn't there either.

So, I head back into the kitchen looking everywhere on the way but still can't find that crazy loaf of bread.

I then decided to stop and do some thinking. "Where in the world did I put that bread?"

Then a thought came into my mind where it might be, but it couldn't be there...

...could it...

...no, I wouldn't do that...

...never.

I mean I can be scatter brained sometimes, and might place leftovers in the microwave instead of the refrigerator and don't discover them for a day or two, but I'm not crazy enough to do what's in my mind...

...but just in case let’s just check and see.

So, I pull open my knife drawer open...

...and low and behold look what I found.

I laughed soo hard at myself after I found this.

I knew I had set it down some where but just wasn't sure where. All I can figure was that I was cutting the bread with the drawer opened and when I cut myself I sat them both down in the opened drawer, shut it and then headed to the bathroom to fix my little booboo.

Thankfully the bread wasn't hurt too bad and tasted just fine when I was finally able to have my garlic bread.

I hoped ya'll laugh at my blond moment.

Some Things You Don't Need to Know

1. Right now I'm making my second batch of apple sauce.

2. I put too much sugar in the first batch, so Caleb probably won't like it.

3. This week I have been attempting to finish crocheting a afghan that I have been working on for almost a year.

4. I need to spray my eggplant plants.

5. Tomorrow I plan to be cutting lots of corn off the cob.

6. I need to paint the fence in front of my house.

7. I've given up on keeping my dogs out of my flowers.

8. My back side hurts after ridding bareback this morning.

9. I've already picked a couple dozen tomatoes.

10. I still have a pile of clothes on the floor in front of my closet that I need to put away.....someday.

11. I may or may not have eaten a piece of blackberry cobbler for breakfast.

12. I finished my apple sauce while writing this list

13. Caleb stole the computer from me so it's taken longer for me to write this post than I wanted it to.

14. I have green beans in the fridge that I need to snap and can.

15. I stay up way too late just so I can watch re-runs of Seinfeld.

16. I do believe I am going to now go to bed, cause I should have been there an hour ago.

Lots-O-Love,

JP

Watermelon and Fireworks

I am normally not one who is short on words, but I have been busy canning and trying to keep my house from turning into a disaster area while I'm doin' it. So real quickly I'm gonna share some photos of our wonderful weekend with some family and friends celebrating our independence. And I got to enjoy some of my most favorite things watermelon and fireworks.....what could be better?!?!

It's not the 4th without some snakes!

Kids eatin' watermelon are too cute!

These last three pics were takin' by our nephew who didn't do too bad of a job, especially since it was really dark outside.

Hope ya'll enjoyed all the pics I will be sharin' some more stories and recipes here shortly.

Don’t forget to check out my giveaway.

Lots of Love!

Because I Love Ya'll - Giveaway

Because I love ya'll soo much I am havin' a giveaway to show ya!

Since ya'll set through all my cherry canning and hopefully you will set through all the other canning stories that I will post in the future I am doing a canning themed giveaway.
The winner will receive:

• Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving

• Ball Canning Utensil Set

  • 1 Jar of Homemade Apple Butter
  • 1 Jar Homemade Blackberry Jelly
  • 1 Jar Homemade Strawberry Jelly

I was busy making these goodies last week....which this was part of the reason why I wasn't able to post much last week.

Along with the cherry syrup I added to my cherries I canned, here's some other things you will find in this wonderful book.

Any person who wants to start canning will need this box of goodies!

  • A jar funnel which is a must if you are filling jars cause it helps save on messes.
  • Jar tongs to help pull hot jars out of a canner as well as moving them around.

  • Lid magnet - This little guy is the only reason why I bought this set for myself. It makes pullin' the lids out of the hot water a lot easier.
  • Bubble remover - this little guy is used to help get air bubbles out of the bottom parts of the jars. I actually thought that I would never use this guy, but when making some extra thick syrup for my cherries it came in very handy!

To Enter:

Just leave me a comment and and tell me what's your favorite summer time produce?

Tomatoes?

Watermelon?

Onions?

Whatever fits your fancy.

*You can earn a second entry by blogging about my giveaway and then leaving a second comment with a link to you post.

Entries will close at midnight on Sunday, July 11 and I will announce the winner on Monday morning.

More about what's been going on here on the farm later.

Janet

Wheat is Over

Most years at this time we would be hot-n-heavy in the wheat field, but because of the extremely wet fall we had around here we, Caleb and I, didn't sow any. Pop however did get some in the ground and by some I mean about 60 acres. In comparison to most years the three farms combine usually sow about 1,500 acres. So we were down just a little bit this year.

So when harvest time came around this year it lasted only half a day. I wasn't able to get over there to see the combine rollin' through the field, but here are a few pics that I took of the little bit of wheat we had on the farm.

This is all that was left in the field by the time I got there.

The entire field fit into the semi trailer.

I will say that I loved not having to mess with much wheat this year cause it made the spring time a lot less hectic.

With that being said I am gonna sign off, go to bed and rejoice that the 2010 wheat harvest is over on the Phillips Farm!

If You Can't Say Something Nice

I have been busy with Vacation Bible School every evening this week so I haven't had time to write a couple of post that I've been wanting to get on here so until I get a chance to do that here are some pics from what Caleb and I were up to last week.

Hopefully these will hold you over till have get my evenings back.

With beautiful blue skies above us we head out...

...to haul hay.

Can we say yuck!

I don't know why, but this is one of my least favorite things to do. Don't ask me why, but I just don't enjoy it. It's kinda like puttin' laundry away, it's no fun.

I was always told "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all."

So I'm done talkin', cause I really don't have much more nice to say, so enjoy....

Oh, this is the look I get when I am suppose to get back in the truck and stop taking pictures.

Aint he such a cutie! ;)

I always here people say how beautiful a field full of bales looks, and I agree when they are some one else's but when they are ours I not a fan of the look.

I am more of a fan of this look. The way a field looks when we have gotten all the bales hauled off the field.

Now that's beautiful!

Peace, Love, Hay Bales...wait No Hay Bales

Until next time,

JP
